Indications:

          Bronchial asthma.

Contraindications:

          Hypersensitivity to budesonide or any other ingredients of Pulmicort.

Special Precautions:

          Lung TB, fungal & viral infection in airways. Pregnancy, lactation. Concomitant treatment w/ ketoconazole, itraconazole or other potent CYP3A4 inhibitors should be avoided. Medical attention warranted if short-acting bronchodilator treatment is ineffective or more inhalations than usual are needed. Patients transferred from oral corticosteroids. Reduced liver function. +ve pressure delivery systems. Not for rapid relief of bronchospasm. Should not be used w/ +ve pressure delivering systems (eg IPPB) in pulmonary conditions unless special drainage is performed.

Dosage:

          Inhaler Adult 400-1600 mcg/day in 2-4 divided doses, maintenance w/ bd doses. Severe: 400-800 mcg daily, more severe: 800-1600 mcg daily. Childn ≥7 yr 200-800 mcg/day. Childn 2-7 yr 200-400 mcg/day. To be given daily in 2-4 divided doses. Turbuhaler Adult 200-1600 mcg, less severe: 200-800 mcg, more severe: 800-1600 mcg. To be given daily in 2-4 divided doses. Once daily if maintenance dose is ≤400 mcg. Childn ≥7 yr 200-800 mcg, 5-7 yr 200-400 mcg. To be given daily in 2-4 divided doses. Respules Adult Initially 1-2 mg bd, maintenance: 0.5-1 mg bd. Childn Initially 0.5-1 mg bd. Maintenance: 0.25-0.5 mg bd.
