          Mometasone furoate

Indications:

          Symptomatic treatment of seasonal or perennial rhinitis in adult & childn ≥2 yr. Prophylaxis in patients w/ history of moderate to severe symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis. Treatment of nasal polyps in patients ≥18 yr & uncomplicated acute rhinosinusitis in patients ≥12 yr.

 

 

Contraindications:

 

          Presence of untreated localized infection involving the nasal mucosa.

Special Precautions:

          Recent nasal surgery or trauma unless healing has occurred. Discontinue use if localized infection of the nose or pharynx develops. Active or quiescent tuberculous infections of resp tract, or in untreated fungal, bacterial, systemic viral infections or ocular herpes simplex. Systemic effects may occur at high doses for prolonged periods. Transfer from systemic corticosteroids to Nasonex may unmask preexisting allergic conditions. Monitor patients w/ vision changes & history of glaucoma &/or cataracts. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr (symptomatic treatment of acute rhinosinusitis). Childn & adolescent <18 yr (treatment of nasal polyposis).

Dosage:

          Adult (including the elderly) & childn ≥12 yr 2 sprays (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily (total: 200 mcg). Once symptoms are controlled, reduce dose to 1 spray in each nostril as maintenance. Max: 4 sprays in each nostril once daily (total: 400 mcg). Childn 2-11 yr 1 spray (50 mcg/day) in each nostril once daily (total: 100 mcg). Nasal polyposis Adult (including the elderly) & adolescent ≥18 yr 2 sprays (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily (total: 200 mcg), may be increased to 2 sprays in each nostrils bd (total: 400 mcg) if symptoms are inadequately controlled. Acute rhinosinusitis 2 sprays (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril bd (total: 400 mg).
