Contents:  

        Synthetic salmon calcitonin

Indications: 

          Primary & secondary osteoporosis, bone pain associated w/ osteolysis &/or osteopenia, Paget's bone disease (osteitis deformans); hypercalcaemia & hypercalcaemic crisis due to tumoural osteolysis, hyperparathyroidism; neurodystrophic disorders (algodystrophy or Sudeck's disease). Adjuvant therapy of acute pancreatitis.

Contraindications: 

         Known hypersensitivity to synthetic salmon calcitonin or to any of the excipients of Miacalcic (see Description, Precautions and Adverse Reactions).

Dosage:

         Inj Osteoporosis 50-100 iu daily or 100 iu every 2nd day by SC or IM inj. Bone pain 100-200 iu daily by slow IV infusion, SC or IM in divided doses. Paget's disease 100 iu daily or every 2nd day by SC or IM for at least 3 mth. Emergency treatment of hypercalcaemic crisis 5-10 iu/kg body wt daily by IV infusion over at least 6 hr or by slow IV inj in 2-4 divided doses. Prolonged treatment of chronic hypercalcaemic state 5-10 iu/kg body wt daily by SC or IM as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. If the vol to be inj is >2 mL preferably by IM. Neurodystrophic disorders 100 iu daily SC or IM for 2-4 wk. An additional 100 iu given every 2nd day for up to 6 wk. Acute pancreatitis 300 iu by IV infusion over 24 hr up to 6 consecutive days. Nasal spray Bone pain associated w/ osteolysis &/or osteopenia 200-400 iu daily. Paget's disease 200-400 iu daily in single or divided doses. Postmenopausal osteoporosis 200 iu daily. Neurodystrophic disorders 200 iu daily in a single dose for 2-4 wk. An additional 200 iu may be administered every 2nd day for up to 6 wk.
