Contraindications:

          Hypersensitivity. History of blood dyscrasias. Patients w/ active organic neurological disorders. Pregnancy & lactation (1st trimester).

Special Precautions:

          If abnormal neurological signs develop, discontinue therapy.

Dosage:

          Prevention of post-op infections Adult 2 g approx 12 hr before surgery. Treatment of anaerobic infections Adult An initial dose of 2 g on the 1st day followed by 1 g daily. Acute ulcerative gingivitis Adult 2 g as a single dose. Giardiasis 2 g as a single dose. Childn 50-75 mg/kg body wt as a single dose. Amoebiasis 2 g as a single daily dose for 3 days. Childn 50-60 mg/kg body wt for 3 days. Amoebic involvement of the liver Adult Initially 1.5-2 g as a single daily dose for 3-6 days. Childn 50-60 mg/kg body wt for 5 days. Nonspecific vaginitis 2 g as a single dose or for 2 consecutive days. Oral treatment of urogenital trichomoniasis Female/Male 2 g as a single dose.
