Indications:

          Listed in Dosage.

Contraindications:

          Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetics. Any condition of mother or foetus in which prolongation of pregnancy is dangerous.

Special Precautions:

          Arrhythmias, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, diabetes, myocardial insufficiency, history of seizures, heart disease.

Dosage:

          Adult: PO Acute bronchospasm Initial: 2.5 or 3 mg 3 times/day, up to 5 mg 3 times/day if needed. Extended release 7.5 mg twice daily. Inhalation Acute bronchospasm As metered dose inhaler: 250 mcg or 500 mcg 4-6 hrly. Max: 2 mg/24 hr. As nebuliser: As 0.01% soln: 5-10 mg 2-4 times. IV Uncomplicated premature labour 5 mcg/min for 20 mins, increase slowly till contractions have ceased, continue for 1 hr then reduce slowly to lowest dose that maintains suppression, continue at this level for 12 hr. Max: 20 mcg/min. Switch to PO at 2.5-10 mg 4-6 hrly if indicated and tolerated. Continue as long as needed to prolong pregnancy. IV/IM/SC Severe bronchospasm 250-500 mcg up to 4 times/day.
