          Tianeptine

Indications:

          Depressive states of mild, moderate or severe intensity.

Contraindications:

          Childn <15 yr. Association w/ MAOIs. A washout period of 2 wk is necessary between treatment w/ MAOIs & tianeptine. A washout period of only 24 hr is required when replacing tianeptine w/ a MAOI. Pregnancy & lactation.

Special Precautions:

          Risk of suicidal thoughts & behaviour or clinical worsening. Discontinue treatment 24 or 48 hr pre-op if general anaesth is required. Avoid abrupt w/drawal of therapy. Fructose intolerance, glucose & galactose malabsorption syndrome, sucrase-isomaltase deficiency. History of drug or alcohol dependence. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.

Dosage:

         1 tab tds. Elderly >70 yr & patients w/ renal insufficiency Max dose: 2 tab/day.
