Indications:
Prophylaxis
& chronic treatment of asthma, including the prevention of day &
nighttime symptoms, treatment of aspirin-sensitive asthmatic patients &
prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Relief of day &
nighttime symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in adult & childn ≥2 yr
& perennial allergic rhinitis in adult & childn ≥1 yr.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to montelukast sodium or to any component of Singulair.
Special Precautions:
Not for treatment of acute asthma attacks. Do
not substitute abruptly for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Do not use
for monotherapy & management of exercised-induced bronchospasm.
Patients should avoid aspirin or NSAIDs during therapy. Pregnancy &
lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Dosage:
Asthma
&/or allergic rhinitis Adult ≥15 yr One 10-mg tab; 6-14 yr One 5-mg tab;
2-5 yr One 4-mg tab or 1 packet of 4-mg oral granules. Asthma &/or
perennial allergic rhinitis Childn 1-2 yr 1 packet of 4-mg oral granules daily.
All doses to be taken once daily in the evening. Time of administration is
individualized for allergic rhinitis.
