        Metoclopramide

Indications:

          Nausea & vomiting. Dyspeptic manifestation due to a digestive motility disorder. Prep for GIT investigation.

Contraindications:

          GI haemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or digestive perforation; previous history of tardive dyskinesia w/ neuroleptics. Phaeochromocytoma, epilepsy.

Special Precautions:

          Childn & young patients; pregnancy, lactation, diabetes, depression; patients taking other drugs that can also cause extrapyramidal reactions. Severe renal insufficiency.

Dosage:

          Adult Tab 1/2-1 tab tds. Syr 1-2 tsp tds. Inj Acute syndromes: 1 IM/IV inj repeated if necessary. Supp 1-2 supp daily. Childn Oral/Inj/Supp 1/2 adult dose or 0.5 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
