Ketoconazole.
Indications:
For topical
application in the treatment of dermatophyte infections of the skin: Tinea
corporis, tinea cruris, tinea manus and tinea pedis due to Trichophyton rubrum,
Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton floccosum, as
well as in the treatment of cutaneous candidosis and tinea (pityriasis)
versicolor. Treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, a skin condition related with
the presence of Pityrosporum ovale.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of Nizoral Cream.
Special Precautions:
Ketoconazole cream is not for ophthalmic use.
To prevent a rebound effect after stopping a prolonged treatment with
topical corticosteroids, it is recommended to continue applying a mild
topical corticosteroid in the morning and to apply Nizoral cream in the
evening and to subsequently and gradually withdraw the steroid therapy
over a period of 2-3 weeks.
Use in pregnancy & lactation: There are no adequate and
well-controlled studies in pregnant or lactating women. There are no
known risks associated with the use of Nizoral cream in pregnancy or
lactation.
Dosage:
Cutaneous Candidosis, Tinea Corporis, Tinea Cruris, Tinea
Manus and Tinea (Pityriasis) Versicolor: Apply once daily to cover the affected
and the immediate surrounding area. The usual duration of treatment is: Tinea
Versicolor: 2-3 weeks; yeast infection: 2-3 weeks; tinea cruris: 2-4
weeks; tinea corporis: 3-4 weeks. Tinea Pedis: Apply once daily for 4-6 weeks or twice daily application to the affected areas and the immediate surrounding area for 1 week is usually sufficient. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis: Apply to the affected area and the immediate surrounding area once or twice daily depending on the severity of infection.
