Contraindications:

          Habitual & psychogenic polydipsia. For renal conc capacity test: Cardiac insufficiency & other conditions requiring treatment w/ diuretics. For hemostatic use: Unstable angina pectoris, decompensated cardiac insufficiency, von Willebrand's disease type II B.

Special Precautions:

          Avoid fluid overload in the very young & the elderly, conditions characterized by fluid &/or electrolyte imbalance & those at risk for increased intracranial pressure. Caution in renal conc capacity testing for infant <1 yr. In hemostatic use, avoid fluid overload in patient taking diuretics.

Dosage:

          Central diabetes insipidus Tab Adult & childn 0.1-0.2 mg tds. Intranasal Adult 10-20 mcg once-bd. Childn 5-10 mcg once-bd. Nasal spray Adult 10-20 mcg once-bd. Childn 5-10 mcg once-bd. IV Inj Adult 1-4 mcg (0.25-1 mL) once-bd. Childn >1 yr 0.4-1 mcg (0.1-0.25 mL) once-bd. Infant <1 yr 0.2-0.4 mcg (0.05-0.1 mL) once-bd. Primary nocturnal enuresis Tab 0.2-0.4 mg nocte. Renal concentrating capacity test Intranasal Adult 40 mcg. Childn >1 yr 20 mcg. Infant <1 yr 10 mcg. Nasal spray Adult 40 mcg. Childn >1 yr 20 mcg. Infant <1 yr 10 mcg. IM/SC Inj Adult 4 mcg. Childn >1 yr 1-2 mcg. Infant <1 yr 0.4 mcg. Therapeutic control of bleeding & bleeding prophylaxis in Haemophilia A & von Willebrand's disease Inj 0.3 mcg/kg by IV infusion over 15-30 min. Adult & childn ≥10 kg Use 50 mL of diluent. Childn <10 kg Use 10 mL of diluent. If a +ve effect is obtained, the initial dose may be repeated 1-2 times w/ interval of 6-12 hr.
