Indications:

Treatment of neuropathic pain, including diabetic peripheral neuropathy & postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Adjunctive therapy of partial seizures w/ or w/o secondary generalisation in adults. Treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in adults. Management of fibromyalgia.

Contraindications:

Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Special Precautions:

Discontinue treatment if symptoms of angioedema occur or if myopathy is diagnosed or suspected. Monitor symptoms following discontinuation of therapy. Diabetes, severe CHF. Monitor for signs of suicidal ideation & behaviour. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr & adolescents. Elderly >65 yr.

Dosage:

Neuropathic pain Initially 150 mg/day, may be increased to 300 mg/day after 3-7 days & further increased to a max of 600 mg/day after 7 days. Epilepsy Initially 150 mg/day, may be increased to 300 mg/day after 1 wk & further increased to a max of 600 mg/day after an additional wk. GAD 150-600 mg/day in 2 or 3 divided doses. Initially 150 mg/day, may be increased to 300 mg/day after 1 wk. Following an additional wk, dose may be increased to 450 mg/day. Max: 600 mg/day after an additional wk. Fibromyalgia Recommended dose: 300-450 mg/day. Initially 75 mg bd, may be increased w/ in 1 wk to 150 mg bd. Max: 450 mg/day.
