Fluvastatin.
Indications:
As an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated total-C, LDL-C, apo-B & TG levels & increase of HDL-C in primary hypercholesterolaemia & mixed dyslipidaemia (Fredrickson Type IIa & IIb). Slow the progression of coronary atherosclerosis in primary or mild forms of hypercholesterolaemia & CHD. Secondary prevention of major adverse cardiac events in CHD after coronary transcatheter therapy.
Contraindications:
Active liver disease, unexplained persistent
elevations in serum transaminases. Pregnancy, lactation, women of
childbearing potential unless they are taking adequate contraceptive
measures.
Special Precautions:
History of liver disease or heavy alcohol
ingestion. Perform liver function tests before treatment &
periodically thereafter. Discontinue use if an increase in serum
transaminases exceeds 3 times the upper limit of normal. Patients should
be advised to report promptly any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness
or weakness, especially if accompanied by malaise or fever. Concomitant
use w/ fluconazole.
Dosage:
Initially 40 mg once-bd or 80 mg once daily in the evening. Mild cases: 20 mg. CHD after coronary transcatheter therapy 80 mg daily.
