Contents:

          Paliperidone.

Indications:

          Treatment of schizophrenia, including acute treatment & recurrence prevention. Treatment of acute manic & mixed episodes associated w/ bipolar I. Treatment of schizoaffective disorder as monotherapy and in combination w/ antidepressants &/or mood stabilizer.

Contraindications:

          Hypersensitivity to risperidone.

Special Precautions:

          Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia (discontinue use). Cardiac arrhythmia, congenital long QT syndrome, concomitant QT-prolonging drugs. DM; CV or cerebrovascular disease or conditions predisposing to hypotension; seizures. Potential for GI obstruction. Elderly patients w/ dementia, Parkinson's disease or dementia w/ Lewy bodies. May induce priapism. Conditions that contribute to core body temp elevation or dehydration. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.

Dosage:

          Schizophrenia Adult ≥18 yr Initially 6 mg once daily. Recommended range: 3-12 mg once daily. May be increased to 3-mg/day increments at >5-day intervals. Bipolar I disorder Adult ≥18 yr Initially 9 mg once daily. Recommended range: 3-12 mg once daily. May be increased to 3-mg/day increments at ≥2-day intervals. Schizoaffective disorder Adult ≥18 yr Initially 6 mg once daily. Recomended range: 3-12 mg once daily. May be increased to 3-mg/day increments at >4-day intervals. Mild renal impairment (CrCl 50 to <80 mL/min) Start w/ 3 mg once daily, may be increased to 6 mg once daily. Moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl 10 to <50 mL/min) 3 mg once daily.
