Contraception.
Indications:
Acne vulgaris where comedones, papules & pustules predominate. Acne of the face, chest or back.
Contraindications:
Active venous thromboembolic disorder, severe hepatic disease, known or suspected sex steroid-sensitive malignancies, undiagnosed vag bleeding. Known or suspected pregnancy.
Special Precautions:
Preexisting/existing breast or liver cancer. Thrombosis; prolonged immobilisation; history of thromboembolic disorders; diabetes; overwt. Discontinue use if HTN develops. Acute or chronic disturbances of hepatic function. Women predisposed to chloasma should avoid sun & UV exposure. Monitor for changes in vag bleeding pattern. Lactation.
Dosage:
Subdermal insertion only. No preceding hormonal contraceptive use in the past month Insert on day 1-5 of the menstrual cycle. Changing from a combined hormonal contraceptive [oral contraceptive (COC), vag ring or transdermal patch] Insert preferably on the day after the last (active) tab of the COC, but at the latest on the day following the usual tab-free interval or last placebo tab of the COC. Changing from a progestagen-only method [minipill, injectable, different implant or from a progestagen-releasing intraurine system (IUS)] From minipill: Insert any day. From another implant or IUS: Insert on the day of its removal. From an injectable: Insert when the next inj would be due. Post-1st trimester abortion Insert immediately. Post-childbirth or 2nd trimester abortion Insert on day 21-28 after delivery or 2nd-trimester abortion. If the implant is inserted later, a barrier method should be used for the 1st 7 days after the insertion. If intercourse has occurred, pregnancy should be excluded or the 1st natural period should be awaited before the actual insertion of the implant.
