Indications:

          Symptomatic relief of RA, OA & ankylosing spondylitis.

Contraindications:

          Hypersensitivity to aspirin & other NSAIDs. Active peptic ulceration. Active or history of GI ulceration, bleeding, perforation or any GI disorders that predispose to bleeding eg Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, GI cancers or diverticulitis. History of previous severe allergic reactions eg Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis & erythema multiforme. Peri-op pain in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). Severe renal, hepatic & heart failure. Concomitant NSAID or anticoagulant therapy.

Special Precautions:

          Previous history of severe adverse events & other risk factors associated w/ PUD (eg alcoholism, smoking, corticosteroid therapy). CV toxicity, MI & stroke, HTN, preexisting CHF, severe dehydration, liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome & overt renal disease. Close monitoring of BP during initiation of therapy. Higher risk of GI toxicity relative to NSAIDs & severe skin reactions than other non-oxicam NSAIDs. Patients taking concomitant oral corticosteroids, SSRIs or antiplatelet agents. Ophth evaluation is recommended during treatment. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly or debilitated patients.
