          Carbetocin.

Indications:

          Prevention of uterine atony & post-partum haemorrhage following elective caesarean section under epidural or spinal anesth.

Contraindications:

          Do not administer prior to delivery. Vascular disease esp CAD, hepatic or renal disease.

Special Precautions:

          Do not repeat treatment in patient w/ inadequate uterine contraction. Epilepsy, migraine, asthma, CV disease or any state in which rapid addition to extracellular water may be hazardous for an already overburdened system. Monitor BP in eclampsia & preeclampsia for up to 8 hr.

Dosage:

          100 mcg by slow IV bolus, only when delivery of the infant has been completed
