Indications:
Treatment of type II diabetes in association w/
dietary measures & physical exercise, when these measures alone are
inadequate to control blood glucose.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to other sulfonylureas or
sulfonamides. Type I diabetes; diabetic ketoacidosis, pre-coma &
coma; severe renal or hepatic insufficiency. Concomitant treatment w/
miconazole. Rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance,
glucose-galactose malabsorption or Lapp lactase deficiency. Pregnancy
& lactation.
Special Precautions:
Patients who are undernourished or w/ poor
general health; adrenal insufficiency or hypopituitarism; on β-blocker
therapy. Discontinue treatment & administer insulin in patients w/
fever, trauma, infection or surgical intervention. Long-term use.
G6PD-deficiency. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Elderly.
Dosage:
Usual dose: ½-2 tab/day as single dose. Max: 2 tab/day. Previously untreated patient Initially ½ tab. Patient whose blood glucose levels do not decrease after 2-wk treatment Dose may be increased at the end of 2nd-wk treatment.
