          Piroxicam-β-cyclodextrin

Indications:

          Symptomatic relief of osteoarthritis, RA or ankylosing spondylitis.

Contraindications:

          History of GI ulceration, bleeding or perforation; GI disorders that predispose to bleeding disorders eg ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, GI cancers or diverticulitis. Active peptic ulcer, inflammatory GI disorder or bleeding. Gastritis, dyspepsia; severe hepatic or renal diseases; moderate or severe heart failure; severe HTN, severe blood diseases or haemorrhagic diathesis. History of previous severe allergic drug reaction of any type especially skin reactions eg erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis. Previous skin reactions to NSAIDs & other medications. Patients in whom acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDS have induced asthma, rhinitis, nasal polyposis, angioedema or urticaria. Rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or galactose-lactose malabsorption. Pregnancy (ascertained or suspected) & lactation. Childn.

Special Precautions:

          Patients at risk of GI ulceration, bleeding & perforation or severe GI complications; CV thrombotic events, MI or stroke. Concomitant use of diuretics, oral corticosteroids, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), anticoagulants eg warfarin or antiplatelet agents eg low-dose acetylsalicylic acid, K-containing drugs, quinolone drugs. Preexisting uncontrolled HTN, CHF, ascertained ischemic cardiopathy, peripheral arterial disease &/or cerebrovascular disease eg hyperlipidemia, DM & smoking. Discontinue treatment at the 1st appearance of skin rash, mucosal lesions or any other sign of hypersensitivity. Hepatic or renal impairment. Asthmatic or predisposed patients. Monitor blood glucose levels in diabetic patients & prothrombin time in patients receiving anticoagulants. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Elderly.

Dosage:

          1 tab/day. Max: 20 mg daily.
