Per 625 mg tab Amoxicillin trihydrate 500 mg, clavulanate K 125 mg. Per 1 g tab Amoxicillin trihydrate 875 mg, clavulanate K 125 mg. Per 5 mL of 228 mg/5 mL susp Amoxicillin trihydrate 200 mg, clavulanate K 28.5 mg. Per 600 mg inj Amoxicillin Na 500 mg, clavulanate K 100 mg. Per 1.2 g inj Amoxicillin Na 1 g, clavulanate K 200 mg
Indications:
Tab/Susp: Short-term treatment of infections eg
upper & lower resp tract, GUT, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint
infections, UTI, septic abortion, puerperal sepsis, intra-abdominal sepsis.
Inj: In addition to the above, also indicated for prophylaxis against infection
which may be associated w/ major surgical procedures eg GI, pelvic, head &
neck, cardiac, renal, joint replacement & biliary tract.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to penicillins &
cephalosporins, possible cross-sensitivity w/ other β-lactams. History
of penicillin-associated jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.
Special Precautions:
Suspected infectious mononucleosis. Prolonged
use. Concomitant use of anticoagulants. Renal or hepatic impairment.
Ensure adequate hydration & urinary output esp w/ parenteral therapy
or high doses. Monitor prothrombin time or INR in patients maintained
on acenocoumarol or warfarin. Pregnancy. 228 mg/5 mL susp:
Phenylketonuria. Childn w/ GFR <30 mL/min. Infants w/ immature renal
function.
Dosage:
Tab Adult & childn >12 yr Mild to moderate
infections 625 mg bd. Severe infections 1 g bd. Susp Usual recommended daily
dosage: Mild to moderate infections (upper resp tract eg recurrent tonsillitis
& lower resp tract infections, skin & soft tissue infections) 25/3.6
mg/kg/day. Childn 7-12 yr 10 mL of Augmentin 228 mg/5 mL susp bd, 2-6 yr 5 mL
of Augmentin 228 mg/5 mL susp bd. Serious infections (upper resp tract
infections eg otitis media, sinusitis & lower resp tract infections eg
bronchopneumonia, UTI) 45/6.4 mg/kg/day. Childn 2-6 yr 10 mL of Augmentin 228
mg/5 mL susp bd, <2 yr dose according to body wt. Inj Treatment of infection
Adult & childn >12 yr 1.2 g 8 hrly, increasing to 6 hrly in more serious
infections. Childn 3 mth-12 yr 30 mg/kg 8 hrly, increasing to 6 hrly in more
serious infections, 0-3 mth 30 mg/kg 12 hrly in premature infants & in
full-term infants during the perinatal period, increasing to 8 hrly thereafter.
Surgical prophylaxis Adult 1.2 g at the induction of anesth. Where there is a
high risk of infection, 3-4 doses of 1.2 g may be needed in a 24-hr period.
Continue regimen for several days if procedure has significantly increased risk
of infection.
